21 Flavors by Hartley Barnes is a unique and imaginative collection of short stories featuring 21 flavors of ice cream. Although these stories focus on the various flavors and consumption of ice cream, the author is actually referencing sexual encounters. Some of the discussed flavors include vanilla, banana split, coconut, and cookies 'n cream. With there being 21 flavors, there are a wide variety of scenes discussed. In this book, the 21 flavors of ice cream are discussed in a manner that is greatly influenced by sexual innuendos. Although not specifically referenced, one can decipher the true meanings of each flavor and its consumption.

Each flavor of ice cream has a short and descriptive story dedicated to it. Each story contains descriptions of the senses and emotions the character is feeling during the scene. None of the stories are related, and each has its unique description of the selected flavor using various metaphors.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I am giving this book 2 stars because of the author's cleverness when writing this book. This book offers a unique description and imaginative use of the topic of ice cream. Although the descriptions strictly spoke of eating ice cream, the author was creative with the wording to sexualize the scenes. I was surprised the author was able to creatively sexualize each scene so efficiently with his choice of words. The book was very well written, with almost no errors noted in its entirety.

Although I commend the author for his creativity, I often found myself perplexed by the descriptions. Perhaps they were a bit over my head, and I had difficulty picturing the true meaning behind the innuendos. There was not much to the story for each of the scenes other than a sexualized scene of someone eating the various flavors of ice cream.

This book would be good for someone with an open mind who enjoys reading sexual-based fiction. This book is not for someone who has difficulty understanding figurative language or is rigid in their thinking. I would also not recommend this book to people who do not like to read sexually-based content. There is no story development in any of the scenes, and each story is only a couple of pages long. Therefore, it is a quick read. This book was very creatively written, and I am sure those who enjoy sexual innuendos would like this book.

I don't like the fact that there is no character development in the short stories. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Quite interesting that he would relate ice cream flavors to sexual innuendos. I think it may be worth a read.

That's definitely clever on the author's part. I wouldn't have thought about comparing ice cream to sexual encounters. However, the content isn't what I normally read. So I'll probably pass. Thanks for your thoughts. I do hope the author takes your advice to heart to make the book better.

I agree with your rating of the book. The clever title and cover picture intrigue readers into wanting to pick up the book. The content of the stories, though, makes many say, "No ice cream for me!" I think I'll pass too.

Looks like the author did a great job of choosing appropriate words to write this book. But this is not my cup of tea. Thanks for your honest review!
