Review by Priscilla Tee -- Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon
Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon
After being dropped off at her grandfather's house by her grandmother for bad behavior, Sarah is forced to go on a trip with her grandfather whom she barely even knows. Tom, her grandfather is quite hesitant about taking a 13 year old hostile and chicky child on a trip of sentimental value but his friends, William and Myra think it's a good idea.
They all embark on a long hiking trip which entails camping, tale telling, and bad weather. Tom carries with him an object of sentimental value which he plans to return to its resting place. This object of sentimental value is a very old spear thrower called an Atlatl. A couple of days later Sarah goes missing together with the atlatl. Sarah later found her self embarking on a new trip with people she did not know. A trip that not only lasted for months but resulted in the death of many, talk about a killer trip. Will Tom ever see his grandchild alive again?
Strong Heart is a book about history, culture, and family bonds. The book is deeply rooted in the ancient times as well as modern age. It introduces one to the traditions of the Indian culture and heritage. This is a book of geology, archeology, tribes, and legends. The author dives hard into the times of Ice Age and the legends of the Native people. This is a story of greed, abuse of power, betrayal and knowledge. It portrays in great significance the importance of our history and heritage.
The author put a lot of thought as well as research on this book. Reading it has resulted in me acquiring a lot of knowledge rather than just entertainment. I like how this book switches between the ancient times and modern age. Charlie Sheldon's style of writing is uncomplicated, and easy to read and understand. I enjoyed reading this book though i felt like the book would have been more interesting if it had chapter names instead of numbers.
If you are interested in drama, adventure and history then this book is for you. The book contains little use of profane but due to the graphic nature of violence entailed in it, I'd advise that it be read by only those in appropriate ages. I am giving this book 4 out of 4 because it was properly researched, professionally edited and captivating.
