Official Review: Curby by Adrian del valle

Curby by Adrian Del Valle is a fictional story about a little boy named Curby. After Curby’s birth, his biological father, Tommy, leaves him in a box in a street gutter. A street sweeper named Nick sees the box and investigates it before sweeping it up. Inside the box, he finds the baby, and he decides to take him home to see what his girlfriend, Sandy, thinks before calling the police to report the abandoned baby. Sandy has terminal cancer and has been given two to three years to live. Sandy wants to be a mother before she dies. Nick and Sandy decide not to call the police and keep the baby instead. Three years later, Sandy dies. Curby disappears after the nanny leaves him alone while he is napping to go to the corner store to buy cigarettes. What can Nick do to find Curby? He does not have a birth certificate to prove that he is Curby’s father. Will Nick go to jail for not reporting Curby’s abandonment by his birth parents?
There were a couple of things I liked about this book. Firstly, the author’s development of the characters was amazing. The reader can see and feel the good, evil, and greed of the characters. The emotion the author has portrayed in the characters will make you angry, and at other times you will cry. Secondly, the author included a poem about passion towards the end of the book that is compelling and helps you understand the emotions the characters are experiencing at that moment in time.
The only thing I disliked about this book was the errors. There are formatting errors, punctuation errors, and spelling errors throughout the book. Although these errors were distracting, I did enjoy the book’s plot. These errors could easily have been avoided if the author had had the book edited by a professional editor.
I would have liked to have given this book the full four stars, but I am unable to do so due to the abundance of errors. I am giving the book 3 out of 4 stars because the book is interesting and has a good plot. Once the book has been edited by a professional, it will warrant four stars.
I recommend this book to readers over the age of eighteen due to profanity and sexual content. Some of the profanity used is profane, but the sexual content leaves a lot to the imagination. The reader needs to be aware of this content.
