Review by TheWildHeartSoul -- Man Mission by Eytan Uliel
In this novel. Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey written by Eythan Uliel, we follow a group of Australian friends through their lives as they go on what they call their Man Missions. The story starts with the four friends in college, which quickly leads to the birth of the missions. Sam and the unnamed narrator are eating at the Food Fair, when Sam says he wants to try the strangest edibles in different countries each year. The unnamed narrator adds on that they should do something outdoor related as well. Those two simple comments led to Man Missions. Though their perilous journeys the men encounter terrifying and life threatening situations: climbing ice cliffs, hitching rides with drug dealers, and countless injuries. Not only are the mission dangerous for them, but the story also tells the troubles of their home lives. Through the story their are marriages, kids, affairs, and even divorce. For anyone that wants to read a thrilling book, this is the one for them.
The by far best part of this book, are the ties between the friends. So often, people grow distant from this school day friends. However, this book shows that no matter what life will through at you, if you work for it, you can keep those friendships, and even help them grow stronger. Even after all of these crazy experiences, both on their missions and at home, these men still have a great relationship, that grows stronger as the story progresses.
A downside to this book however, is that it ends on a cliffhanger, though all stories have a cliff hanger of some sort. After several issues in the narrators personal life, his story take a turn, though we are never told where is story goes. After reading so much of this unnamed narrators life, I would have liked to know what happened to him.
I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book very beautifully paints a picture for you, to where you feel that you are in the room, or in the forest, or on an African savanna with him. Other than the cliffhanger at the end of the novel, there is not a single other thing that I could correct about this book. The book was edited phenomenally, without a single error.
I would recommend this book to adults, as it does have some sexually graphic scenes that may not be suitable for all ages. Men who want to plan an adventures, or wives who want to discover the inner workings of their husbands mind would greatly enjoy this book.
