Anna Hope has sky-rocketed with her first novel. WAKE is an in-depth and realistic portrayal of lives shattered by the folly of war. It is cleverly quick-paced through literary structure, yet it never neglects the softer heart-wrenched struggles of both surviving combatants and those waiting at home after World War I (1914-1918). WAKE follows several families searching for closure from shocking deaths or experiences that accompany the postwar destruction of 1920s British normality. It is a difficult journey for the characters, an eye-opener for the reader, and a revelation for the philosopher to glean that war's only winner is, in fact, war itself.
