The Fugitive (The Border Series Book 5) by David Griffith is a fascinating and action filled story of an intelligence agent, Lonnie bowers, who had spent most of his youthful days fighting drug cartels in Mexico in a bid to bring them to book. Having, in his later years, a desire to live in peace and solitude,he left the intelligence agency with which he had worked, intent on raising a family, as a rancher in a remote countryside. He had the dream of giving them the security they deserved. But the appearance of carlos quintero, who was sent against him by one who might be connected to his past years of fighting drug peddling, and the inexplicable mystery surrounding the murder of his brother Gus, with which he was later charged for, he was to find that his dream of peace and security would take longer to actualize. Would his journey back to Mexico unravel the mystery or would it put an end to his dreams of life with his family?

The book was a good read. It has a vivid narration and portrayal of actions. It speaks more about the daily experience we are used to in many modern countries, and can easily engage the attention of readers for hours on end. I like the sophisticated manner with which the various characters are portrayed. There was no confusion of place and function of each character in the plot. The theme of the novel is a very general one, handled in a most effective sublime abd subtle manner. It has a great richness in depiction of morals of life, made more effective by the subtleness of its communication. The narration was smooth and straightforward. Every action flowed with the required measure and temperance of words.

There is certainly nothing I disliked in the book, though some actions were melodramatic and unrealistic given the situation within which it occurred. The vocabulary is vast, and may likely present reading difficulties to readers of the lower age bracket but would not be a problem to an average adult reader.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. Were it a possible rating,it would have been a little less in decimal than that. The book was interesting and had an in-depth treatment of its subject matter. Though there were few typographical, spelling and grammatical errors, they were in the bare minimum and therefore minor to the rating.

I recommend this book to those who has interest in travel, adventure, fight against crime, and above all anyone who enjoys the feel of action. There are no obnoxious words or indecent sexual content. It is unsuitable for children because of its use of difficult worss, and violence which dominates the story.
