Well, this was not what I expected at all. From the description of the book, I was expecting something a little more in depth and definitely much longer than the actual book. And speaking of length, this story is only 8 pages long. Seriously. I did not even know you could write a book that is only 8 pages long. I would honestly suggest filling in and adding a lot more to the plot.

Speaking of the plot, there didn't really seem to be one. We start off with the clouds and trees giving us their perspective on life at the moment. Then we go to Eliza’s point of view. Eliza is an average Jewish girl who apparently doesn’t have much of a life. Most of her thoughts revolve around her first sexual experience, this Arab guy that she does/doesn’t love and other random occurrences in her life.

All of her thoughts culminate in a slightly dramatic event that lets us know why One Hundred and Eighty-Three Seconds is the title of this story. This ending event is a rather sad event and doesn’t ever get fully explained.

So what are my thoughts on this book, or rather short story? I’m not even sure. It was a very different read for me. I thought that the way the author represented Eliza and her thoughts was very well executed. I would again suggest that the author use this short story as a base and build a story out of it. I’m sure that this style of writing will appeal to a certain group of readers, but it definitely needs more of a story. Also, I didn’t really see the need for the language. It just made it seem crude and was really unnecessary. There are some books where it fits the scene to have certain language, but I really didn’t see the point in it here.

I think that if this story if given a lot of attention, it could be very marketable. The main thing is the length. When someone is buying a book, they don’t want to see that it is only 8 pages long. Also, there was no title page or any information about the author’s name. I had to get back on this website to find out what the author’s name was. So, with everything factored in, I am giving this 1 out of 4 stars.

Thank you for your well written review. This book sounds like a missed opportunity as I was attracted by the title but would want something longer than eight pages and a bit more developed.
