The Fugitive (The Border Series Book 5), the fifth book of The Border Series written by David Griffith, is the story about a retired agent called Lonnie Bowers, who used to work for the government, exposing and fighting drug cartels in Mexico. After retiring, the Bowers family moved to a remote place called Blackwater Ranch, where Bowers hoped to live out a safe and peaceful life. The dreams were cut short, however, after an assassin attacked the ex-agent, apparently driven by a mysterious man, willing to spend a lot of money to see him dead. The fragile peace he had strived to maintain now broken, Lonnie Bowers has to return to Mexico to find out who would hold such a grudge as to find a hitman that would travel across the world, to what he considers one of the safest and most remote areas in the world.

This was definitely one of my favorite books to read. Griffith did a great job pulling the audience into the story and building up the atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed the colorful narration and lifelike action that this book provided. The author managed to easily capture the essence of the moment, causing every page to feel more like a movie than a book. Even though I haven't read any of the previous four books, I found it easy to understand everything that was said. This also applies to the few Spanish words, that the author used in the story. These only added to the ambiance, pulling the reader into the world of Lonnie Bowers and the drug cartels.

There wasn't anything too problematic about the book. There were some very minor grammar mistakes, but they were so few and so far between, it didn't make the reading experience any worse. The one thing I did mind was how little character development Bowers went through. This is just my opinion though, and I encourage everyone to read the book and build your own opinion on this instead.

Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and rate it a 4 out of 4 stars, though if I were to give you a more non-official rating, it would have more likely been a 3.5, as there were a few errors and plot points I didn't enjoy as much.

Overall, this is a very good book. It does contain a small amount of mature language, nothing that a reader should be too worried about. I recommend this book to teens and young adults who enjoy good action, guns and crime, as well as adventure and the many near-death experiences the protagonist has to go through.
