Sometimes, losing a loved one may cause us to fall into depression, blame ourselves, blame those around us, or even blame God for taking away the life of that person. But as time goes by, we understand why some things have to happen the way they do. By the Way by Dennis Santos is a fictional book that takes us through the themes of loss and hardship, adventure, romance, tragedy, spirituality, and comedy.

Dalan, who is the main character of the book, is about to marry the love of his life, Jennifer. As he prepares himself before the wedding, he remembers how he lost his parents in a terrible accident. He wishes they were there with him at his wedding. But again, he tells himself that although his parents may not be there, he still has his big sister Caren, who has acted as both his mother and his father since the demise of their parents. The wedding takes place successfully and Dalan and Jennifer, now husband and wife, proceed to their honeymoon. During the honeymoon, Jennifer and Dalan express their remarkable love for each other until the last day, and they decide to go back home. But then on their way back, they experience a turn of events and a big tragedy occurs which affects the life of Dalan for the next year.

This book has two hundred and sixty pages. It has twenty-eight chapters, and each chapter is assigned a subtopic which, in a way, tells us what the chapter is going to be talking about. The author uses the past, present, and future tenses throughout the book to convey his message and entertain the readers.

What I liked most about the book is how the author vividly describes the context in which an action is taking place. He describes them in such a way that any reader would get a clear picture of whatever place or situation he is describing. Reading this book felt like watching a movie. The author made the drama, romance, and tragedy surrounding Dalan’s life feel so real and relatable. I also liked the way the author selectively used suspense. This made me so curious and ensured that I turned to the next page to find out more. The book stirred a mixture of emotions in me as I read it; one minute I felt so sad and then the next I would feel so happy. Since I didn't find any grammatical errors while reading, this book was exceptionally edited.

In conclusion, there’s nothing I disliked about the book. I, therefore, rate it 4 out of 4 stars and I recommend it to anyone who likes stories of romance, inspiration, and adventure. This is a brilliant book. I can’t think of any groups of people who won’t enjoy it.

[Astral Magi]

This sounds like a worthy read. Having experienced a considerable amount of loss myself, I feel that I can most likely relate to Dalan and his struggles. Thank you for a lovely review.

I just finished reading this book and truth be told, it's an amazing book. Dalan regained hope and was able to move on with life. Good review.
