When a science teacher dies unexpectedly, Florence is devastated even though they were not close. She decides to undertake science experiments that may shape her future life. While doing so, she seeks advice and inputs from her new friend, Reverend Andrea, who happens to steer her on a journey of self-discovery. As time goes by, Florence finds a new companion, Darren, who helps her in every step of her experiments.

Meanwhile, Parry, a journalist, has been asked to go to Queen Elizabeth II University to gather findings of some juicy developments. While there, Parry encounters Doctor Maria in the Zoological Neurology Department and Professor Benoit in Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI). The knowledge that the journalist gathers there marvels his mind!

There’s a lot of diversity in the story, especially with the characters. Let’s begin with Parry, who is Welsh, and Benoit is a Frenchman. Florence’s parents are of Hong Kong origin, while Doctor Maria Gaviota is a Spaniard. In addition, when Parry gathers information regarding aliens from Professor Benoit, their dialogue is captivating and educational. I found myself nodding at the latter’s explanations of aliens.

Benoit uses day-to-day examples in his elucidations so even a layman can comprehend. On the other hand, Parry employs sarcasm while asking the professor questions that sometimes leave him agitated. The author did an impeccable job with the physics and exobiology segments of the book. Oh boy! Many theories have been employed, ranging from religion to evolution to exobiology, which may require a receptive mind for comprehension.

Nonetheless, I feel there are a few loose ends in the book. One, the ending was not satisfactory. I was left reflecting on what happened next. Also, some theories went unsolved by the talented scientists and doctors in the university. Some findings and secrets exposed toward the end were to remain concealed and not discussed publicly. However, there’s no gratifying reason as to why not to. These were the things I disdained. I have to admit I was disappointed. As a result, I rate the work three out of four stars.

I only stumbled upon few errors as I devoured the tale, so the installment is professionally edited. Though Florence was not religious, she developed a relationship with her reverend, Andrea, which proves to be helpful as time goes by. Andrea portrays the significant role played by religious leaders to the teenagers and youths. I recommend The Hallmark by Michael Waverley to lovers of physics-themed books, especially exobiology.
