(The following post is a review of A Can of Peas by Traci DePree. This review was written by Lauralee43)
A Can of Peas is a fictional story that depicts the true values life. God, family and hard work are the three main values that are evident in A Can of Peas. Christian author Traci DePree intrigues the reader with not only a great story of the importance of family, but writes this fictional story in a form that has a great flow that keeps the reader interested from the beginning to the end.
Peter Morgan and his wife Mae are starting a life of their own in St. Paul, Minnesota. They are struggling newly weds and are living with Mae's parents that is until the death of Peter Morgan's grandfather. After a short battle with cancer, Peter's grandmother is left with a huge farm to take care of by herself. At the threat of losing many fond childhood memories, Peter and Moa Morgan take on a life changing event of running the Morgan farm.
It is evident that Traci DePree knows the farming community. Throughout this fictional story, the true farmer's life comes into action as Peter leaves his career as a psychologist behind to become a successful farmer in Lake Emily, Minnesota. Not only does DePree bring out the struggles of being a farmer, but throughout the story the struggles of a farmer's wife are also depicted through the characters Mae Morgan and Peter's grandmother Virginia.
Throughout A Can of Peas, the reader also learns about a close knit community through the people of Lake Emily. DePree introduces new character by sharing a story of the connection of the Lake Emily Morgan's and neighbor's and friends they have helped.
I give A Can of Peas four stars. It is a great fictional novel that is easy to read but packed full of education. It is a well written family oriented book.
