Most people are not bold enough to write about their lives for others to read. Tricia Harper took the courage to put down a memoir. She employed the use of dramatic fiction in this book; she skillfully blended true-life events with fiction. Life's A Dream; Dead or Alive by Tricia Harper is a memoir that chronicles a difficult time in the author's life and her unique journey through it.

This book centers on the life of Violet, who is also known as Vi. She was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy when she was just six months old. It was hard to control, but she hoped to live her life to the fullest regardless of her health complications. Soon after, she was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia which led her body to go into a shock.

As the story progressed, Vi's health deteriorated immensely. However, she was able to manage her health for a year until it got too serious. Were the doctors able to find a way to help her? Was she able to come out alive? Or was it her time to go? I encourage you to get a copy of this book to find out.

This book has a lot of positive aspects. The title of the book caught my attention at first glance. This book is very engaging; it is an easy read. It was written with a language that flows effortlessly; the author did not employ ambiguous words. Also, the characters were dynamic; for instance, Vi, John, Trina, and Joe all underwent significant internal changes throughout the story. I love the way the author portrayed love and commitment in this book. This was seen when Vi was in the hospital, and her extended family and friends took turns taking care of her kids. Also, her husband, John, did not give up on her; he stayed committed to her regardless of her inability to satisfy his sexual desire. Also, I love the dramatic conclusion of the story; I wasn’t expecting it.

Nonetheless, the book also had one negative point to note. I found a lot of errors in this book; it was not professionally edited. This solitary point is enough to compel me to deduct one star from my rating of this book.

Therefore, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I did not give it a lower rating because it was still delightful to read, and its language was easy for me to understand. This book is highly recommended to lovers of dramatic fiction and memoirs. Also, any lover of fiction would find this book an exciting read.

I really enjoy memoirs because the authors don't go wrong when writing their own story. I'd love to read this book. Good job.
