Unusual company of a teenager, two old aged men, a young learned woman, their trekking journey and the events that follow is the central part of the book Strong Heart. Tom along with his friend William and his daughter is set to go on a trek to settle some business with his grandfather Bob Bob and his own conscience. Just when they are getting ready to leave, a surprise is dropped at Tom’s doorstep named Sarah claiming to be his granddaughter. Tom is left with no choice but to tag her along to the trek. As the story progresses it is revealed how Sarah is the one leading them. Sarah being the youngest was supposed to just accompany them but she provided them with the young, unadulterated eyes that could see magic as unbiasedly as the reality.

The setup of the story is in Olympic National Park. Charlie Sheldon has satisfyingly described the picturesque park and its wilderness with fine imagery. The minute and fine detailed description of the park surrounding makes you visualize it enough to go on a trek yourself. The legends of evolution of human, their movement on earth and their arrival to this part of the world or the dispute of human being here from always is well questioned and discussed for readers to get curious. Charlie Sheldon’s personal academic research is clearly visible in the conversations of the characters.

There is nothing much to dislike about this book. Me as a reader was glued till the end. Though it might not interest someone to mix up this fiction to the real history with the legends and the myths of this land. This at times can become confusing while reading and can be difficult to digest when read about it all together.

I choose to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for being so engaging throughout by allowing to live the wild through its vivid imagery. It can be read and re read just for the beauty of nature it describes.

Strong Heart is recommended to all the couch potatoes first. This book holds the full potential of taking them out on a trip or know what it is like to trek and live-in forest. This book is also recommended to all those who already have been on adventure trips and treks to look for some magic in their trip next time. Strong Heart deserves a sequel and maybe a series.
