Review of Looking For A Weegie To Love
Looking For A Weegie To Love, by Simon Smith, follows Jack Kemp, an English journalist living in Glasgow. Jack is 33 years old and has been single for the last three years after a broken relationship that got him shaken for a while. His friends have gotten into married life, and his elder brother will soon be tying the knot. That fact does not only rattle him but gives him a sense of loneliness which keeps him awake some nights. Hence, he resorts to a dating app to find a woman for himself. Will he really get his love online?
This fast-paced book is intriguing and amusing. It has witty narratives; the author has a way of making stuff seem funny, and I love that element. It made me more interested in finishing the book. Consisting of 130 pages, it's a quick and comprehensible read. Comprising eleven short related stories, it has solid plots that unveil their events coherently, revealing Jack's dates and sexual exploits.
Set during the COVID-19 pandemic period, Looking For A Weegie To Love unveils the intricacies of dating apps, while highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. It tells about the irrationality of online dating, while showing the emptiness which loneliness creates and what certain people go through to find love and companionship.
In addition, regarding the characters, though I was able to relate to them with the little information the author provided about them, there should be more details about them, even the protagonist. Anyway, I can understand that most of the characters were not described in depth since they just appear once in the protagonist's life and then disappear.
However, though the book is an interesting read, it explores chiefly the themes of dating and sexual needs. Therefore, there are explicit sexual content, including the use of a sex toy. I don't see anything bad in such features. The book is what it is, and it's for a targeted audience. Therefore, if you don't like books with the above features, you may want to steer clear of this one.
In conclusion, I rate Looking For A Weegie To Love 4 out of 4 stars. I couldn't rate it lower because it's interesting and fascinating. The author presented his story in an amusing and a coherent manner. Hence, I enjoyed reading it. Moreover, it was professionally edited; I noticed just one grammar error. I recommend it to readers who enjoy books that involve dating and sexual adventures.
