A wonderful story in which author Charlie Sheldon shows, not tells, the story of a young girl's journey in which she learns of extinction and life. The many twists, show a tale of family heritage in the "land of history, magic and legend" as Sarah grows into Strong heart while hiking and camping with newly found family members through the vast beauty and wilderness of the Olympic National Park; a park of a million acres in Washington state. A deep and griping tale of young Sarah's decisive moment as she reaches maturity, prominence and recognition with ancestors long gone, as well as those she has just met. Along the way, Sarah and her newly found family members learn love, as they teach each other lessons. Sarah’s insights into the past and the unknown is forged with guidance from ghostly tribal ancestors as they explore the hope of survival not only in the now, but also the past and future. A fun read, with many visuals. In his book Strong heart author, Charlie Sheldon paints a picture of the peaks and valleys of the park which reflect the adventures of coming to life and the dread of potential death. It quietly addresses immortality through the eyes of tribal legends and in a such an entertaining way that it is thought provoking and educational. The author has a great talent to bring the characters to life as well as the scents, sights and sounds of the forest. This book is a good escape to the sacred lands as the team sets its sights on reaching the burial ground of a relative before the mighty developers/loggers can invade and disturb the final resting place of the many ancient native settlers as well as the deceased one time matriarch of the family know as “Bob-Bob”. It is a tale of ancient native tribal traditions blended with the modern. This book reflects both the positive and the negative of daily living and desire to enrich the soul which is not only captured by the author’s words, but with delight in the adventures of climbing and a desire to reach new heights of a higher love.

Sometimes haunting, this woven tale is hard to put down. A real page turner to the very end.
This is a 4 out of 4 star read for anyone who wants to escape into the wild, has a love for native tribal lore and a desire to embark on a wild canoe ride in search of a "short-faced" bear as the Eagle flies high above crying twice.
