Man Mission, written by Eytan Uliel, is a firsthand account of the author’s life experiences over the course of fifteen years. Each year is defined by an outrageous ‘man mission’ to an exotic location, namely New Zealand, Iceland, South Africa, Vietnam and many more. Each trip is undertaken by Eytan and his closest friends; they engage in strenuous activities while ‘roughing it’ in the wild. Ice climbing, canoeing and hiking are a handful of the activities in which they participate. Each 'man mission' is defined by a strict set of rules that ensure the ultimate manly experience. Personal accounts of Eytan’s life are weaved within the travel recounts. He explores themes such as marriage, fatherhood, infidelity, depression etc. This gives the book character and dimension, creating an even balance between the essence of a man and his emotions.

This memoir is excellently written; the scenic descriptions are beautiful, the emotional aspects are raw and impactful and throughout the novel, the author’s witty sense of humor keeps things light. He spares us none of the embarrassing details, admitting his hilarious mishaps. As the years progress and Eytan ages, we are able to witness his personal growth and emotional maturity. His candor in describing his innermost thoughts and feelings enable readers to truly connect to his story.

This memoir digs beyond the surface and relates to readers. The author breaks down the barriers of toxic masculinity and comes to terms with his emotions, exploring healthy emotional outlets. The novel is a must-read for guys, particularly those with an affinity for the outdoors. There is a high degree of profanity present, however one could argue that it enhances the humor! On a serious note, the memoir discusses many issues that today’s men face, enabling them to connect to the plot.

Man Mission was an absolute pleasure to read, even from a female perspective. We are allowed a rare peek into the inner workings of the male mind! The themes are touching, while the travel accounts are informative and interesting. The author delves into the history and culture of each country he visits. He samples exotic foods, engages in traditional indigenous activities and pushes the boundaries of his white-collar life. Reading this novel is an immersive experience! I feel compelled to rate Man Mission 4 out of 4 stars as it was simply amazing. I could find no flaws with the impeccable writing and altogether, moving storyline.
