Strongheart is a beautiful book of discovery, adventures, magical journeys and building healthy family ties. A day before Tom’s journey with his friend William and his daughter Maya on a mission of reuniting with his great grandfather BobBob, another family member makes an appearance, a granddaughter he had no knowledge of with a striking resemblance to his daughter. Sarah quickly makes her mark as a typical teenager not impressed with anything the adults have to say or plan to do, forced to go on a journey with her granddad and his friends hiking is literally the worst thing she could do. This journey though to Sarah’s surprise is a journey that will reveal what a strong and big heart she carries around in her small body.

The positive aspects of this book are that Mr. Charlie Sheldon really put together a well researched paper in ancient times and human origin and migrations but also made it so inclusive by making it a riveting discovery story that everyone can enjoy. I enjoyed the characters and how the different characters came together with different ideas and different levels of knowledge making it an interesting learning experience for the reader. The antagonist in the story Buckhorn and Lynch are very easy to dislike and I appreciate how their abuse in power were made clear and were addressed.

The book is very well edited but there are some sentences where the words are not separated, it is a good book as the first of a possible series. The indepth description of the land was also very refreshing and actually brought the book to life. I commend the family ties the author created with Tom and Sarah when he wouldn’t give up finding her when her whole family experience was very shaky and Tom’s protection of her from then on. It’s a nice twist as he became the safe haven we all expected a maternal grandmother to be.

I do not have anything negative to say about this book it really was a great read, I was only confused about Maya and Peter’s relationship or lack thereof was he an informant for Buckhorn?

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think it can be read and enjoyed by the entire family. The teens will definitely relate to this book constantly feeling like they aren’t heard or believed Strongheart could definitely be a book of hope and escape for them. I also appreciated the positive male figures as girl dad’s and granddads in Tom and William with more caring, loving and teaching traits. I definitely look forward to the second book to see how they will save the land from Buckhorn and preserve their ancient home.

The symbolism of the bear also was very interesting to me, in the Forest the bear was a guide and led Sarah to her journey but in the adventure the bears were threatening,I also really enjoyed the symbolism of the eagle in the book and would like to see how nature and humans will interact in book 2.

I definitely enjoyed the rebuttal between Maya and Sergei but felt the pushback from Maya a little insensitive to the mourning scientist, I am happy they went on a journey together and would like to see how Buckhorn will react to the change in Sergei's research interests.

I would recommend this book to people interested in prehistoric human origin stories, scientists, there is a reference to shamans in the book so I would recommend it to people interested in nature and believe in mystical ideology, people who are interested in the preservation of artefacts and open to different perspectives.
