Man Mission by Eytan Uliel falls under the genre, fiction. The book focuses on the lives of four men starting from their college days and extending through fifteen years of their lives. The story is told from the main protagonists’ viewpoint. Four men that have known each other since youth decide to create their little annual tradition. Every year they set out on adventures through various exotic locations using different types of transportation methods. Each year, they try to challenge themselves more than the previous year. As the protagonist describes their adventures, he also talks about his personal life.

As the book describes the events of the annual tradition for fifteen years, we see the characters go from college students to husbands to fathers. Along the way, the reader can see the path each of the men chooses in their personal lives. We mostly observe the life of the main protagonist. He describes his personal life and how he met his wife. He explains in detail the love they shared. We see the struggles of keeping a family from the men’s perspective. The emotional pressure to sustain his family and provide worldly comforts for them keeps him from finding his dream. Thus he lives an unfulfilling life. With the help of his friends, he later realizes where he went wrong and what he must do to make it right. The author does a fantastic job of bringing to light the effect ‘toxic masculinity’ has on men.

All four of the men have their issues and suffer in different ways. When they were younger, they kept themselves from sharing these troubles with each other. As they grow older, we can see that they mature and understand that all human beings are suffering from the same problems. The author addresses such important aspects of human life. It was extremely refreshing to read and understand life from the point of view of men.

Another thing that caught my eye was how well the author describes the different landscapes. The annual tradition takes the men to all types of places across the earth. The reader can see that the author has vast knowledge and experience in traveling. The book takes us through places like New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Fiji, Spain, Thailand, South Korea, South Africa, Vietnam, America, Taiwan, Peru, and Iceland. All of these countries have different environments and climatic conditions. In all these places, the characters choose different modes of travel like hiking, kayaking, cycling, paddle boarding, ice climbing, and so on. The author does an amazing job of describing these various environments.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. There was nothing I disliked about this book. The point of view from which the book is written is extremely refreshing. The book was well edited as I found no errors while reading. In my opinion, young adults and teenagers have a lot to learn from this book. This book would provide them with a different view on life and help them in their future paths.
