Uglies is a story about a dystopian society's obsession with beauty. Beauty defines who you are, the job you receive, the people you associate with, etc. If you aren't beautiful, you are no one. Before you are 16 you are considered an ugly until you turn 16 and can have surgery to make you a Pretty. Tally is an Ugly ready for the change as she nears her 16th birthday. She meets another ugly named Shay, who is not so sure she wants to change. As Shay runs away, Tally must follow her to the outside world and bring her back, or she will never be changed into a Pretty. Her experiences open her eyes to what their "Pretty" little world really entails.

What a unique and interesting take on society's obsession with beauty. This novel made me question the world I live in. It was intriguing, entertaining, and the hint of romance added just enough to keep it real. I honestly loved it! I couldn't put it down!
