Review of Man Mission
Man Mission is a story by Eytan Uliel about friendship, love, and adventure. It is the journey to distant lands to revive and rediscover what else there is to life. Each journey is filled with thrilling adventure, memorable moments of levity, and amusing characters.
During the first year of the mission, just two men traveled. They went on a long expedition on New Zealand's South Island's Harper's Pass Trail with little planning. The adventure ends with one person being thrown into the back of a drug dealer's pickup truck and the other continuing despite getting scared by cows and suffering a sprained ankle. Fortunately, their friend Daniel organized the trip the next year and ensured that everyone was prepared. As the adventures go, the four friends' lives change. Changes in jobs, marriages, and the birth of children have pushed them further away from their carefree college days.
An unidentified narrator tells the story in first-person narration. I felt as if I were there with them as he entertained me with tales of his travels. The narrator has a fantastic sense of humor that is both funny and engaging because it is self-deprecating at times.
The characters and writing style were incredible. The characters travel to fifteen different countries around the world. The descriptions of the surroundings of each location are excellent, with just enough imagery to allow you to imagine the grandeur without slowing down the plot. Aside from the scenery, each chapter provides information about the indigenous cultures of the region. The characters in the book are always eager to participate in and respect local traditions, no matter how different they are from their own.
I liked the story. This book made me want to travel. I was hooked from the start to the finish. I have no negative comments about the book. I liked that the author does not explain the events, he just shows them. I did not find any errors in the book that show that a professional might have edited it. For all the aforementioned reasons, I rate it a 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to mature readers. There is some mild profanity throughout the book, as well as references to adult topics, so it may not be suitable for children. For everyone else, this is a heart-warming story from a talented author that will leave readers satisfied and responsive to the book's life lesson.
