The book revolves around Tom Olsen and his friends William and his daughter Myra are preparing for a hike and are visited by Tom’s ex-wife who dumps his granddaughter Sarah on him. Tom doesn’t even know about her existence but is forced to accept her responsibility. He grudgingly takes her on the trip since she cannot be left alone at home where she gets lost and is found again after 8 days but is injured and changed beyond belief. The story she then narrates to the group as to her whereabouts while she was missing is as unbelievable as it is impossible. The intensity of the story is reflected by the quote by William, ‘Are we taking Sarah on this trip or is she taking us.’ Although the story itself is not very fast-paced but is filled with grit, character, and mystery requiring a reread. The story takes dramatic turns quickly but is much beyond the action or just the drama between the characters. I believe it is more the journey of a teenage girl, who is used to being alone and fighting with the entire world to believe what no one accepts as truth. I would give this book a 4 out of 4 rating for the quality and the story arc of Sarah and the way her adventure affects all the members of her group.
