Review of Me and Sugar Boy
Me and Sugar Boy is a book by Melanie Bell. This is a thrilling and exciting book about the author and her beloved pony, Rudy. The author, in nine chapters, narrates the story of how Rudy changed her life and gives a new perspective of how daring life can be. The question is, what lessons did she learn from a pony? How does a horse rejuvenate the youthful dreams of the author after so many years?
The author starts the book by talking about Rudy's first moments with his mom and how he was getting used to the environment, his mother's care, and patience. She also wrote about Rudy's resilience in learning how to walk. The author of this book talks about life, its ups, and its downs. She spoke about her big adventures with Rudy and her family in horse showcasing. She uses the story of a horse's life to depict the various stages of life, like how Rudy's performance wasn't that good until he got to a certain age. She used Rudy's life to teach various lessons about life. How can the life of a horse teach one anything about life? How does a horse change one's life? What is the author's real reason for telling Rudy's story?
I found a lot of positive aspects to this book. First, I loved the way the author told the story. The way she starts the chapters with a quote and basically builds her story on that quote, just like the second chapter where she quoted John Denver when he said in The Eagle and the Hawk, “Be all that you can be, not who you are.” Also, I enjoyed that she told the story of how Rudy taught her to step out of her comfort zone and be all she could be. She explained that this was how she started her big adventures with Rudy and her family. I love the way that certain times in the book, it would be like it exposed Rudy's thought process too. It was funny and intriguing and really gave the story a good flow. I loved that the author wrote in clear and detailed terms when writing the story too. I also loved the storyline and its lessons too.
Rudy's story, too, taught something about life, its beauty, and its vices. It taught me that no matter what, you are enough. It taught me that once in a while, one has to be daring and face life as a big adventure and be all one can be. It also taught me some things about horses too, and I loved it. I learned a thing or two about horses from this book.
I tried so hard to spot a negative aspect of this book, but I found nothing. This proved to be a fantastic read from a skilled author, and I am really happy I read it.
Although I found a few errors in the book, I would say this book was professionally edited. I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because the errors did not affect the flow or rhythm of the book. The book was interesting, intriguing, and inspiring.
I recommend this book to persons who are on a journey of self-discovery. It is also recommended to people who are going through this problem of failed dreams. I believe this book will be helpful and inspiring to them. I equally recommend this book to lovers of animals, especially horses. People into horse riding would love it too.
