The Ping-Pong Champion of Chinatown by James Hanna is an interesting story. It is about a young girl Gertrude McDowell who is naive and innocent. Gertie always gets herself in trouble but luckily, she is always rescued by her friends.

The story continues and Gertie goes from starring in a high school production, to posing for pictures of her feet on a 'foot fetish site' as instructed by the her friend 'the Nose' which earned her the title "little miss twinkle toes." After sometime, She finds herself making dresses for the "Sugar Shack Dress Company." Gertie did not know that she was distributing hard drugs to her supposed customers. She gets well paid after each delivery but she did not feel very bothered about the huge amount of money she receives. It was a bonus to her since she needs enough money to sustain herself. Her husband Benny Pearman, did not do anything to help with the bills rather than watch television and play baseball.

After her arrest, Gertie finds herself in prison serving her jail term due to drug trafficking. She gets released after sometime and moves to another town where she plays Ping-Pong without defeat and in turn gets sold into white slavery. One thing I love about this book is the fact that Gertie always had someone to bring her out all of her troubles. Agent Jackson and the Nose were her guardian angels.

The author paints Gertie as one who is easily deceived. It is evident that she is very naive because many of the characters in this story did not have a hard time winning her over. She always did what she was told innocently without thinking of the consequences she would face afterwards. It could be said that the story had a humorous appeal. However, I find Gertie as a very interesting and inquisitive character because she faced all her challenges without much complaint. Gertie's character is quite relatable to people who have a hard time making decisions for themselves and those who easily trust people.

This book was well edited and I did not find any errors. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I really enjoyed the story. I also loved the fact that the author made a very good example of what it means to love someone and always assist them when they are in need. I recommend this book to people who love entertaining stories.
