They say a book is not judged by its cover. I agree with this, and I say that even if a book is indeed judged by its cover, Backcomb and Tattoo by Shea Embry will surely pass the test. The story tends to take one through different moods of happiness and emotional moments. The book's cover depicts four different beautiful women, of different ages and moods, placed side by side, and in that way, the story is told.

The book opens with Rachael's frustration, having to deal with her mother's ailment. In a bid to be consoled and have comfort, she returns home from the hospital, hoping to find that comfort in the arms of her beloved husband, only to find him absent. She, however, found comfort in a dinner party she attended where she met Aunt Mary Opal in an interesting way and bonded with her.

Aunt Mary Opal is a rather older woman, easygoing, passionately loves flowers, and has a good sense of humor, though she is full of secrets. Her bond with Rachael didn't just end with them both, as different situations led to amazing relationships with two other women; Jessi, who is rather short-tempered, and Nicole. Together, they form a team of four women, helping each other overcome life's hurdles. Embry has done well to pen down every event that occurs. While reading, a part of the novel caught my attention. There is a part that talks about Rachael's date with Jake, who brought her flowers on every date. However, he stopped that when they were married. I didn't like that gesture. The profession of love is meant to be continuous and peak even at marriage, but that has not been the case even in reality.

Friendship is a very important factor in every human being. In my opinion, it has its very own percentage in every stage of improvement in one's life. In the same way, people have used that tool to bring people down. How well have these women played out theirs? Surely they've had their adventures and hurdles, but facts as to how they overcame their situations, their happy moments, as well as numerous interesting episodes are uncovered by those who read this amazing story. I've enjoyed the story, the mood swings I had with it, and the lessons I got from it.

I'm glad to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It's been professionally edited, as I found no grammatical or spelling errors, and I recommend this book to mature teens and adults who love women's adventures and lifestyles.
