Work In Progress by Mandy Haynes is a collection of excerpts from different authors. The excerpts range from romance and suspense to life issues and memoirs. It is a compilation of over fifty-eight short stories or parts of a published book that had been removed due to various reasons, either by the author themselves or their publishers. This book serves as a guide for learning more about these authors; some of them are best-selling and award-winning authors, while some are authors yet to debut. The stories here though short, opens the eyes of the reader to the varying experiences and adventures of different people. Read Work In Progress by Mandy Haynes to follow these authors on their journey of creating characters and stories from scratch.

I like the idea behind this book. It is one of a kind, as it not only serves as a source of relaxation to the readers but also as a form of research where they get to find out about other authors and their books. The readers would enjoy reading this book because they would experience a variety of emotions going through the different thoughts of the writers. The point that makes it more interesting is the way the author compiled these stories, starting from the milder ones to more suspense-filled ones.

On the other hand, some of the stories seemed to the unnecessary parts of a book, which might bore some readers. Also, links to the full stories should have been provided at the end of each part so that interested readers would find it easy to access the complete version of the books. I found some errors in the book, but I still think it was professionally edited. It may need one final round of editing, though.

I will give this book a good rating of 3 out of 4 stars. Surely, it is an intriguing read, and the idea behind it is also brilliant; the readers get to see how the authors create the masterpieces they leave to our consumption. However, because of the issue I stated in paragraph three of this review, plus the errors I found in the book, I deducted a star from it.

Work In Progress by Mandy Haynes is well recommended to lovers of fiction and non-fiction alike. Also, readers in love with adventures and suspense would find it worthwhile. Any reader who is interested in finding out the work behind the stories they enjoy would love this book.

I think this is a very interesting concept. Not only do we get to read some unpublished, for whatever reason, work, we also get to see some of the process. What causes these authors to write the way they do?

I'm curious how this author was able to get hold of so many excepts from other authors. It must have been quite a project to put this book together.

It's understandable that some stories may not resonate with all readers and could be seen as unnecessary. Personal preferences can vary, and not every story will appeal to everyone.
