Review of The Ray of Hope
Janet Johnson Anderson’s The Ray of Hope is a book that gives us a glimpse of human life as regards class, race, corruption, and gender discrimination. These can be found in the murder case where two brothers, Wynton and Raymond, were almost accused of the murder of the three victims because they were black. Also, Sergeant Raskin, who is a female, always had to prove herself among her peers.
It is also a story that teaches about hope and healing and that no matter what life throws at you should keep fighting and trust in God. These can be seen in characters like Wynton, who lost his child and wife in an accident but kept living his life and trusting in God even though he missed them a lot. Also, Tyler, who was an orphan staying in the foster care system, which was overcrowded but found a family, Sara, and Eric, who loved him as their own. There were many characters like that in this book who kept fighting against the odds.
The positives of this book are many. It is educative and encouraging. I loved the suspense of not knowing who the actual killer was because they were many twists and turns until the ending. At some point, I thought that Captain Hugh was the bad gu, and I thought it was some other person at other times. I liked that the author talked about issues that are still going on today, which include racism, bribery, gender discrimination, and corruption. Racism is still going even though it is not as bad as it was before. Also, corrupt leaders in power bribe the law enforcers so that they can turn a blind eye to their deeds. I liked that he also wrote in slang that blacks use in Raymond and Wynton’s part. I liked the way he narrated the events that happened; he painted a vivid picture as if I were watching a movie—especially the crime scenes and the investigations that went on.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. I found no errors in this book. It was exceptionally written and professionally edited; there were no profanities or vulgar words. The author also did her research before writing the book because they were some real facts that I found in the book. So, I will be rating this book a 4 out of 4 stars because of the good work.
I recommend this book to young teens and adults. I also recommend this book to persons who love thrillers or action books because the book has an exciting plot involving crime and espionage.
