Review of The Macro Event

The Macro Event: America's Survival is a fictional, action-filled thriller novel written by Andrew R. Adams. This book consists of sixty-eight chapters that put on full display the concepts of duty, courage, and survival. It follows Lee Garrett, a fifty-two-year-old special effects consultant, and engineer. Lee is also a doomsday prepper, which is good because doomsday is here!
The book begins as terrorist sleeper agents are activated in America. The US then suffers EMP attacks and a nuclear attack on its capital. Lee Garrett is in Vegas at the time of the attack. He must use his skills to get back to his family in California.
Along the way, he meets Jake Rodriguez, a soldier on his way to Fort Irwin, which is close to Lee's hometown. After several misadventures, the two make it to Fort Irwin. There Lee is given an important role in helping deal with the crisis. What does Lee's new role mean for his family and community? Will they survive the looming threat of active terrorists on American soil? Find out in this intriguing book.
This book has a lot of positives. Andrew does a good job of developing the main characters such that it is easy to understand their motivations and actions. Also, he goes into detail describing the guns, ammunition, and equipment used throughout the book. The book is also well-paced, managing to maintain its intensity for the majority of the plot. It also infuses moments of humor, somber reflection, and suspense, maintaining a balanced tone throughout the book. Andrew does well to explore multiple points of view of the same event giving the reader a complete, almost cinematic picture of each plot point. The author also does a good job of exploring the issue of gun laws from the viewpoint of gun owners, giving a fresh outlook to the debate surrounding the issue.
I could not find any major negative aspects in this book. The author did a splendid job, and I was impressed by everything, starting from the narrative style to how the story ends. I would love to read more of Andrew's works.
I found very few errors in the book; it was professionally edited. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The captivating and action-filled nature of its story ensured my satisfaction with the book; as a result, I cannot rate it any lower. I recommend this book to lovers of thriller novels who want a bit of action in their books.
