Backcomb & Tattoo is an engrossing story about four troubled women who found refuge in one another. Rachel is dealing with her husband's neglect, as well as the loss of her mother. Aunt Mary Opal was in an abusive marriage and is dealing with major health issues. Jesi is afraid that she will lose her grandmother (the only person that understands her). Nicole is a victim of an abusive relationship. These four women found themselves, realized their undeniable bond, and discovered different ways to relieve their pains via each other's companionship. Jesi, on the other hand, has just realized that Nicole is harboring a secret and is determined to uncover it. Will the four remain friends once the secret is revealed?

Shea R Embry did an amazing job of creating and developing the characters. Mary Opal grew from a lonely, sickly old lady to a witty smartass who is never without a plan, and always make plans to make more plans. Rachel transformed from a depressed and neglected wife to a cheerful and self-assured woman. Jesi has progressed from a state of bewilderment and roaming to one of finding love and settling down on her own. Nicole clawed her way out of profound despair to the bright side of life.

The author's ability to bring this story to life in general cannot be overlooked. Everything in this story was given adequate descriptive care, from the largest to the tiniest detail. The personalities, the setting, the gatherings, even the vehicles, and flowers are all described in such a way that as one reads from word to word, a mental picture emerges.

The book's witty substance deserves to be mentioned. Trying to despise Aunt Mary Opal will be impossible. She crammed the book with amusing and witty deeds. Her dance, her storytelling, her facial expressions, and her alleged CIA secrets all contributed to the book's hilarity.

Love is the major theme of this novel. The author demonstrated how true love can alleviate suffering and provide hope for a better future. The intense love between the four drove their bond, and their relationship grew stronger. They experienced each other's agony, sadness, delight, and happiness in equal measure. Their bond is as close to perfection as a human partnership can get.

There is nothing I don't like about Backcomb & Tattoo. There are no errors, indicating that it was exceptionally well edited. I give this book four out of four stars because of its adequate character development, appropriate sense of humor, finely delineated characters, and the author's wonderful descriptive power.

This book is intended for an adult audience because it contains sexual contents and profane languages. Those in need of encouragement and motivation may find this book extremely beneficial. Readers who are sensitive to lesbianism should proceed with caution.
