Review of Man Mission
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a fictional narrative. The author and the protagonist bring to light the life of four friends, Alec, Sam, Daniel, and him in 15 years. How are you living your life out of work to make it memorable despite the expectations that society has set? To break this cycle of life of a robot, the author and his friend Sam decide to explore the world of fun. This work of literature exposes themes of manly friendship, love, adventure, and growth.
While in school, the protagonist came up and shared the idea of traveling to countries all over the world with Sam. He later lost interest in the idea. Sam who loved the idea by then made their dreams come into reality. They had their first trip to New Zealand which was very enjoyable and frightening too. After consecutive missions, Alec and Daniel join the team to create memorable experiences. However, their trips become dangerous more and more. This didn't put them down as they found solace in those annual tours. These four friends explored many countries, from South Korea, and Thailand to South Africa and many other places. Read to explore with them around the world, understand their lives and the struggles they went through as men and you will enjoy it.
I loved most how the author illustrated the place of man in society. Gender and social roles can transpire to living in a void life and without purpose. The narrator lives a life doing everything he's told to do and what is expected of him as a man. From having a good career, getting married, having children, and taking care of a family to being tough as a man and not showing any emotions. I felt for him. Yes, he did all that but still, his life is full of void and without a purpose. I felt the fear he had of living life but with someone else's goals and visions.
The author's way of writing was simple and interesting. While reading this book, I laughed, became empathetic, felt nervous, and also learned a lot from the story. Humor was used to the heart's content. For example, when they thought that they were being attacked by wild animals in their tent, they were pretty prepared to fight only to meet with a herd of cows.
The only thing I didn't like is the mention of the name of the narrator. His name is only mentioned once which I feel the author would have done better than that. However, that didn't corrupt my reading at all and the author might have purposed that. The book is professionally edited and I did not find any typos or grammatical errors. Profane words are used but they are manageable. I did not mind the profanity as it made conversations funnier instead.
I give this book a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars due to the sensational storytelling and the fact that there is nothing much to dislike about the book. I must acknowledge the gripping tension which makes one not put down the story. I recommend this book to a mature audience because one will learn and understand men, their struggles, and emotions too. Also, those who love to explore the world will get a glimpse of how to do it and learn new things.
