Review of Man Mission
Man Mission, written by Eytan Uliel, tells the story of four young men who went on an adventurous journey that lasted for fifteen years. In these years, they visited New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Spain, Thailand, South Korea, South Africa, Vietnam, the United States of America, Taiwan, Peru, and Iceland. The four friends came across drug dealers as well as wild animals. However, aside from these two frightening experiences, they had so much fun in activities not limited to hiking and cycling. They visited several beautiful cities and met amazing people. It was more like a reunion for them because, having known themselves since they were teenagers, they came back as young adults and participated in this exhilarating journey together. However, along the line, awful events started happening; two of the four friends lost their marriages, and life became miserable for them. In the end, the last phase of their journey became a healing pathway for their situation.
When I started reading this book, I thought it would be only about the activities they underwent during their adventure, but no, it was more than what I thought. There were so many lessons that I learned from it. I learned that cheating can ruin beautiful relationships and marriages; the major character in this book was blessed with an amazing family, but immediately he cheated on his wife, things started to fall apart, and separation happened. Furthermore, no matter how painful a situation is or what life brings to us, we should endeavor not to allow the situation to overwhelm us or end our existence; rather, we should look for ways to overcome the situation and heal. The moment the writer, who is the major character in this book, realized that his family crisis was hurting him, he accepted the painful reality of his mistakes and forgave himself; forgiving himself and continuing his adventurous journey with his friends became the sole source of his freedom and happiness.
There was a funny aspect in this book that made me laugh so hard; it was when the writer's wife, who was pregnant, demanded to eat a particular food item in the middle of the night and he had no option but to get it for her; in the end, she didn't even eat it; it made me agree with the fact that pregnancy comes with a lot of changes. I also loved that the author chose a simple style of writing; this made it easier for me to understand the subject.
I gave this book a rating of four out of four stars because there was nothing that I disliked about it. There was a good flow of information and character development. Its content was also inspiring because it takes a whole lot of courage to continue a trip after encountering setbacks. It was also professionally edited because I found only negligible errors.
I, therefore, recommend it to people who are avid lovers of adventurous stories and self-help books because the content of this book would fascinate them. Other categories of people not mentioned might find it uninteresting.
