Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a riveting, captivating novel. The story is told from the perspective of a man, one of four friends, who embark upon a journey every year to a different country. On such missions, the possibilities are endless and the novel takes you through every bend, trek and footslog of the companions. The purpose of the man mission is not just to arrive at the destination: there has to be some physical activity involved. Through strenuous mountain hikes or cycling for days or kayaking through treacherous rivers and oceans, this book takes you on every adventure with the boys and the people they encounter and the cultural diversity they experience. I found myself howling with laughter on more than one occasion.

But the book is so much more than the recounts of fun and adventure. The novel discourses the afflictions of men (the four Man Mission friends included), such as the burden of being the head of the home and sacrifices made in careers and personal life in order to be decent providers, involved fathers and loving husbands. It touches on the lack of communication between couples, strained and broken marriages, unhappy homes, and the fallacy that a man should suck it up and not show emotions or complain.

The positive aspect of this book scored a home run with me. I adored the way in which the point was brought across that men sometimes need a break from it all, they need a man mission. It is dependent on a man to find a decent paying job if he wants a wife and to raise a family later on. Most of the financial burdens fall on him and it should be very much okay for him to step away and do something just for him.

I found nothing negative about this book. This is a well penned masterpiece and the author surely did some work in researching the various destinations he wrote about, including the names of places, descriptions, and traditions. The characters and their personalities are very much relatable to anyone who reads this beautiful piece.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The author is able to connect using simple language and an easy-to-follow plot. The book was also very professionally edited as I could only find one instant of an error. I would recommend this brilliant read to a mature audience, as they would be better able to grasp the message within. It is certainly not written only for men, women should definitely have a go at it, as well.
