Eytan Uliel's Man Mission is an adventurous fiction that describes the adventures of four Australian friends, Sam, Daniel, Alec, and the nameless protagonist who, for fifteen years, set aside a week every year to travel to different countries, including Thailand, Fiji, Korea, Japan, and South Africa, amongst others. Man mission was born from idle talk inspired by the boredom of Sam and the narrator in law school, and it began years later with a phone call from Sam. Over time, they created rules, assigned tasks, met and listened to different people, tried new foods, and most importantly, engaged in risky outdoor activities, usually hiking, kayaking, and cycling. In the course of a decade and a half, the four men share their good and bad moments as they went from trying to figure out what life was about to carrying the responsibilities of being husbands and fathers, and it was soon an opportunity to take a break from family and work chores and redefine their purposes.

I appreciated several things about this book, one of which is the author's excellent writing style as the book was written in first person narrative, and the detailed description of all the events allowed the creation of beautiful mental pictures. The structure and organization of the book were terrific as each chapter described each mission and the flashbacks of the events that happened after the last mission to the next. The maps drawn before the beginning of each chapter and the quotes from the Bible and contemporary men were other things I loved about the book.

In addition, Man mission is filled with so many moral lessons as Eytan sheds light on society's stereotype of manhood, and I really learned after reading this book that men need to express themselves and that no matter the mistakes you might have made in the past there's always a chance to start afresh. I also liked that the book was professionally edited, as I found no errors when I was reading.

There was nothing to dislike about the book. I won't forget to add that it contained some profane words and references to mature content which though necessary for the storyline, is not suitable for a younger audience. And on that note, I'll award this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I'll recommend this book to mature readers who love adventure and are interested in finding out what manhood entails.

I can't imagine what it feels like to read with a book with a protagonist whose name is discreet. Thanks for the detailed review.
