Rough Way to the High Way is a Christian mystery and suspense novel by Kelly Mack McCoy. The story centers around Mack, a pastor turned long-haul trucker. Mack loses his way after the death of his wife. Looking for a fresh start, he decides to return to his former trade as a trucker. Mack sells everything and buys a new Peterbilt truck. His first job back, delivering a load to Chicago, turns out to be more eventful than he had anticipated.

Mack picks up a mysterious hitchhiker who claims to have just been released from the Jordan State Prison in Pampa. Along the way, he encounters a series of incidents that may not be as random as he initially thought. Will Mack deliver his load on time? Will he finally uncover the truth behind the death of his wife? Why is his journey filled with so much misfortune? You will have to read Rough Way to the High Way to find out.

I like that the Rough Way to the High Way is a moderately long book. The Kindle version is 254 pages long and contains 51 chapters. The story flowed well enough that I found myself deeply engrossed as soon as I started reading. The story has the right amount of mystery, suspense, and action to keep readers hooked and entertained till the end. I could tell that the author took his time writing this book. He ensures readers won't have any lingering unanswered questions by providing the right amount of information.

I like how relatable Mack is as a character. I was able to connect with him as I read the book. Despite his religious background, he underwent moral struggles just like everyone else. I liked that he was hesitant about whether to help the hitchhiker the first time he saw him. As well as his reaction when he found out someone stole the bracelet that belonged to his deceased wife. It was raw and realistic. Readers should expect to learn spiritual and moral lessons from the characters and the story.

The story has a distinct southern charm to it. I loved it when characters in the book used particular southern phrases and sayings. I also love how Kelly Mack McCoy wove in Christian teachings and Bible verses throughout the story. I think it balanced the story well and fit perfectly with the situation.

I will be giving Rough Way to the High Way by Kelly Mack McCoy an overall rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I chose to give this book a perfect rating because it truly deserves it. The storyline is captivating, and the book is generally well written. The book is also well edited. I did not find any errors while reading. Also, I did not come across anything that I felt would warrant a star deduction.

I recommend Rough Way to the High Way to readers who enjoy Christian fiction. I would also recommend this book to readers who enjoy mystery thrillers. I do not think this book will be suitable for readers who are non-Christians because the target audience is Christian readers. Also, I would not recommend this book to younger readers because the story is more mature.
