Man’s Mission by Eytan Uliel tells the story of four young men who met in college. These friends have a tradition of going on an annual trip. They go hiking, biking, or kayaking, traveling round the world. They have been doing this for fifteen years while balancing work and family. The story shows the lives of these four men, as they enjoy their trips and face the ups and downs of life simultaneously.

One of the things that stood out to me was the author’s exemplar use of imagery. The author was able to involve the readers with the story. How he went into detail about every experience they had, made me feel like I was watching a movie. The mental images made me feel like a part of the adventures. I was able to experience every feeling, observation, and personal thought.

The author also used elite humor, making the story very enjoyable. The friends had witty personalities, making them all very compatible. The chemistry between the friends was very electric. They all had strong traits, which helped in shaping the story. The characters showed vulnerability, which society is yet to embrace in men. I was elated to see men being able to show emotions, especially with each other. They were able to help each other in times of need, either during the trip or in life.

The use of the first-person narrative in the story made it more relatable. The story was written in form of a memoir; I found the experiences in the book very relatable. Though I have not traveled through most parts of the world, the friends' experience felt like my experience too. Every destination was described perfectly and even entailed the illustrations on the maps.

The book would have been more enjoyable for me if the author separated the experiences on the trip from the rest of the story. I would have preferred them to be in separate chapters or sections than intertwined with the rest of the story. I found it very confusing, but that did not deter me from finishing the novel. The book also had a lot of foul language, which I found very uncomfortable to read. That, however, did not make me dislike the book.

I would rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars since it was well edited. The book had minimal errors; it was enjoyable to read. The inspirational quotes after each chapter were very thoughtful.

I would recommend the book to everyone to read. Men trying to navigate life will find the book to be perfect for them. The book would also suit women who are trying to understand men. People who do not like foul language may dislike the book.
