Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is about four friends who ventured for a manly annual expedition in a span of fifteen years. The trip’s sole focus is to travel to exotic locations and try any weird things imaginable. It is a coming-of-age saga that commences during the characters’ university days up to their middle-age maturity.
The book answers many questions. Is it safe to go with the flow or step outside of your comfort zone to fulfill your wildest dreams? Will you really be happy if you reach your goals? How far can you go in pursuit of happiness and success? How can unhappiness corrupt one's soul? How friendship is the most meaningful relationship? How can a person with a stable and fulfilled life outside be shaky and wasted inside? Why a man can never be content even if he reaches the stars?
I love the point of view style of the author. The narrator is nameless making a reader feel that he is the one telling the story. I feel a deep emotional connection with the book. I realized that it is also hard to be a man. They also have emotions but they were brought up to bottle it all up inside. The idea of having an individual or a group to share your feelings with is very helpful for your emotional health. The book emphasizes that pent-up emotions can be detrimental to your life. Your emotions become stronger if you keep on resisting them.
I initially thought that this book is all about travels and adventures. I laughed and felt excited by the jokes and challenges experienced by the characters along the way. I cried while reading this book. I feel the love, the hatred, the resentment, the redemption, and the blissful acceptance of life’s uncontrollable twists and turns by the main character.
There is nothing I dislike about the book. But I nearly put it down when it comes to the painful part. I never saw it coming. Read to find out why.
The book is exceptionally well edited. There are no errors in the book. Therefore, I give it my heartfelt 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to the wanderlust. This is a must for someone who wants to know if happiness is measured by success in a career and marriage. This is also for those who have no idea how traveling can help you cope up with life.
