Man Mission by Eytan Uliel tells of four past school friends who have now established their new lives as men embark on a sentimental journey together. It started off as just two friends living out a college dream of venturing on a journey to a new location and sampling exotic foods. This turned into an annual expedition and eventually, the other two friends eagerly joined, naturally making it their active duty to go on their manly mission every year. They travel around the world hiking, kayaking and cycling to an unknown destination each year trying to outdo the previous year. Soon family and work life start to take an incredible toll on their lives and their annual trip turns into a getaway.

This published book has three hundred and sixty-two pages. It is divided into three parts, with fifteen chapters in total. Before each chapter, there is a quote by a distinguished person and a Bible verse along with a map of the country they will be visiting. It introduces each chapter with an encounter on their mission and then goes back in time to some weeks or months before to tell you about what happened in their life leading up to the journey. The book starts with the four friends in college to offer you an introduction to how they came about the idea of their yearly manly mission.

I liked a lot of things about this book, but I will only list a few. Initially, this book provided me with an opportunity to understand a man’s feelings and how he regards life. I understood how hard it can be for a man to willingly share how he feels. According to society, a man is supposed to be tough and able to balance family and work life and not crack or show feelings or else he is seen as soft. Whereas it is a social norm for a woman to feel frustrated and typically talk about her feelings.

I also learned communication is the key to a long-lasting, fulfilling relationship. Although you may naturally think that if you announce something to your partner, it may hurt his/her feelings, so you keep everything bottled up inside. Unfortunately, the longer it stays there, the more destructive your behaviour would become towards each other. It is worthier to talk to your partner and sincerely try to work it out before your relationship is too far gone and you cannot fix it.

This book was entertaining and knowledgeable, therefore I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I only encountered one error while reading this book, which shows it was professionally well edited. I would heartily recommend this influential book to a mature audience, as it contains profanity and vulgar language. Any adult going through a stressful relationship will gather a lot from this book.
