A painting hangs on the wall, Cypresses above a body of water, a snow-white egret on one the cypresses, behind them a panther sits on palmettos and an alligator down at the waters edge, below the gator a bass descended, leaving behind a rising trail of bubbles, a painting that captures Owen Cloud's imagination on his first night shift at the Cypress General Hospital.

Owen moves to Cypress Lake in the summer of 1977, a graduate from ASU (Atlantic Sands University. Unwilling to sell real estate, he takes up a job as an orderly, and the corridors of this hospital only open up his buzz of being. Patients stride in and out of the hospital, some of them breathing their last, most of them leaving a mark on Owen that only opens a pondering spirit. However, a conversation with Tina on his first night, a friendly hand from Marianne and a movie with Nikki, leave a much bigger mark, one that Owen has to keep hope for and when fate intervenes, he has to stare straight at the journey that awaits him.

Sip Lake by Joseph Basara is a profound book. He tells the story of what it would mean to live in a such a part of the world, where one mans story is everyone's story, and the tiny meaningful moments that connect these people. He connects the pieces that every man needs to embark on a journey toward himself and towards love. The quoting of past artists really brings the book to life it is not just a story but a learning experience. I would rate it at a 4 out of 4.

Highly recommend it to anyone in their twenties it's a busy period since everyone tries their hardest to find themselves and the space that truly belongs to them.
