“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow” —Anita Desai

The quote becomes even more true once you read the Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel. It’s a fast-moving, thrilling, and full-of-action travel memoir that entails the fun, curiosity, and continuously evolving lives of four men –cum-lad who ventured on several lively and exotic travel expeditions to test their manliness.

Distributed into three parts, Man Mission includes fifteen yearly travel adventures around the globe by four Australian friends, Sam, Alice, Daniel, and the author himself. They roamed several beautiful places to undertake some rugged and adventurous activities like camping, hiking, biking, and kayaking on ferocious river waters to satisfy their soul and manliness. During their travel expeditions, they went to New Zealand, Japan, Iceland, Fiji, Spain, Vietnam, South Africa, and many other places where they explored: awestruck hiking trails, exotic foods, frozen waters, wild seas, new cultures and people, and most of all some memorable stories that will remain the part of their lives forever.

The book, in real terms, is quite engaging and delightful. I like the author’s simple and natural writing style in which he never tried to present himself as a superman; instead, he openly admits his flaws, mocks his friends, and shares some ups and downs of his personal life.

The book alternates between their travel stories and personal lives as to how they molded while raising their families and how some hard-core realities made them see life from a different angle. Every new adventure prepares the reader to go on some new wild mission with the Man Mission team. In addition, each chapter (a new adventure) commences with a quote to boost your spirit and ends with short statistics which give an interesting glimpse of the whole mission. And literally, I like this form of addition in a travel book. Another appealing factor that stands out the book from other travel books is its style and mode of presenting travel stories which really kept me hooked; though initially, I was reluctant to choose the book, however, later on, I admitted it was a good choice. The only incongruence I had with the book was its digital copy. It was not fine enough, and I continuously struggled while turning subsequent pages.

Though it’s purely Men’s adventure; nevertheless women would like it too. The unique “manly” innovations (like the rules and regulations of Man Mission) make it a funny and heartwarming read. The book is edited professionally; I found only two errors. Moreover, it is suitable for readers above 18. I could detect only one instance of a rather profane language. So, I rate this fantastic book 4 out of 4 stars. If you like travel memoirs with unique adventures, this book is the best choice for you.
