Bowie Finds a Friend is a children's book by Lynette Boreham. Bowie is a Blue Heeler Kelpie who lives on a farm with his siblings. He chases a butterfly off the farm and becomes lost during a thunderstorm. He wanders the bush, eventually finding his way to a road. Here, he is rescued by a man in a car and taken to a veterinary hospital. After he recovers from his ordeal, two ladies from the RSPCA put him up for adoption. Will Bowie find a new home?

This book's computer-generated illustrations will appeal to young children. Boreham's simplistic storytelling is also ideal, as is the consistent alternation: a page of the story followed by a picture. I like the fact that this is a true story with a happy ending. The overall presentation of the book is also satisfying. Its bright colours and short sections of prose make it easy and enjoyable to read.

As for negatives, Bowie Finds a Friend contains numerous minor errors. Most of these errors are missing or incorrect punctuation. Commas are regularly used where a semicolon or a new sentence would be more appropriate. An editor is needed to tidy up the sentence construction and the punctuation, especially around the dialogue.

In addition, Bowie, a Blue Heeler Kelpie, is pictured as a Husky all through the book. Given that children's books are supposed to be somewhat educational, I would suggest changing Bowie to a Husky for the story. Alternatively, the author could redo all of her illustrations; however, this would be more difficult and time-consuming.

Given the editing issues, I rate Bowie Finds a Friend 3 out of 4 stars. With the above issues fixed, I would be happy to rate it 4 stars. It is a positive and uplifting adventure story that is most appropriate for young children.

Bowie must have been really scared to go through such an ordeal. The story’s premise is adorable but the issues need to be fixed. Children pick things up from books so mistaking a husky for a Kelpie is not acceptable. Thanks for the review.

Children's books are not my cup of tea but this one sounds very compelling. Moreover, I love novesls based on the farm.

Children’s books are always a great way to relax and unwind. Keeps me busy when I don’t want to commit to reading something serious. I’ve never seen a blue Heeler Kelpie, but I’m sure children will love his color. I hope Bowie finds his way home.
