Review of Man Mission
Two guys decide to take a trip to New Zealand at the start of the fiction book Man Mission by Eytan Uliel. After that vacation, they started making it a tradition to travel a long way every year. Later, a few more people joined, and the event was given the moniker Man Mission. The excursions included biking, hiking, and more. While also sharing their travel experiences, Man Mission talked about their personal lives. Their personal lives experienced various changes and challenges as the story goes on. Man Mission walks us through a friendship spanning fifteen years, showing us each person’s distinct journey. This lovely book offers a story about many different cultures, regions and much more.
The author alternates between the present and past tenses as he tells us the backstories of the characters and the events of the trip. As a result, the book’s structure takes readers one step back into the men’s past, which let me learn more about them, and then one step forward into their present-day reality.
What struck me most about this book was that the care the main character had for his wife. Even the book is about men and most characters are men, I saw his love for his wife in each chapter. In their first trip they weren’t engaged. In the second he proposed and in the third she was pregnant. Since the story teller was the character himself, it was obvious that he used to think a lot about her. The unique Bible verses and quotations that describe men’s strength at the beginning of each chapter particularly astounded me. This, in my opinion, helped the book’s major theme—that men are capable of doing things beyond what is expected.
Another quality of the book I liked was its style of mixing the trip stories with the characters’ personal stories. The author began each new chapter in the middle of each trip. He presented them in the present tense. Then interestingly he discusses different things happened in the characters’ life in the year after the previous trip. There was nothing I hated about this book. I didn’t find any typo or grammatical error. I enjoyed reading Man Mission and helped me know more interesting places. For the reasons I listed above I rate this book four out of four stars.
This book does not make comparisons between men and women. It merely aims to portray the perspective and side of life taken by men. I said this because I wanted to encourage ladies to read this book. I didn’t want to discuss gender, but I do believe that this book will teach new wives more about their husbands and their emotions. Additionally, this book should be read by men who desire to be inspired by other men.
