Review of I Carry Your Heart

I Carry Your Heart by Barbara A. Luker talks about a young woman, Abigail, whose innocent acts of care and concern for people change her entire life. Her show of love to a stranger brings her into the most passionate feelings of love and changes her life completely. However, as unforeseen circumstances unfold, she gets married to another instead of the love of her life. Unable to stay away from him, she is forced to keep her affair with him secret for decades.
Upon her eightieth birthday celebration, she opts to have an early celebration, having a big secret to reveal to her entire family on that day. She dies after the pre-birthday celebration, and a change to her will before her death is the only clue to uncovering the secret. Will her granddaughter, Krista, whom she has specially tasked with this in her will find the secret? Is there something beyond the secret affair to discover?
Barbara A. Luker did well to put me through a good flow of suspense. The eagerness to discover what Krista could discover next was at its peak in each chapter. The writer was careful not to divulge any extra information that would spoil the built-up suspense. This suspense would keep readers intrigued and ready to keep reading to find out more.
The author uses simple and straight-to-the-point grammar. The vocabulary is unique and okay, making it easy for any reader to read and understand without using the dictionary to check words unknown to them.
There is also the weaving of the plot into an unpredictable love story. This doesn't give the reader a chance to predict or determine what happens, as it is not a regular kind of love story. It was also embedded with lessons for young or old couples to follow in their love life. It would be easy for some readers to relate to Abigail's dilemma.
However, promoting illicit affairs outside marriage, as was the case between Abigail and the supposed love of her life, might affect this book's readership. Individuals with strong moral opinions about the laws that guide marriage might be displeased. Ultimately, it would be the reader's prerogative to make what they would out of it.
I Carry Your Heart is a fantastic book. I'd recommend it to young, growing couples. Older couples would also enjoy it. However, younger couples would benefit more, considering how the story eventually ended. Aside from a few errors, there is nothing to dislike. Therefore I rate it 4 out of four stars.
