Every man has a mission on this earth—a mission to become the best man he can be, a mission to provide for his family, and a mission to fight all of life’s challenges head-on. Men are always viewed as warriors who can endure and conquer anything, but we often forget that they too can crack, break down, and feel hurt. Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a novel that highlights every aspect of a man’s life. From encounters as a child and teenager to the experiences adulthood has to offer.

Man Mission is the title of this book as well as the name of the yearly trips that Eytan and his three friends—Sam, Daniel, and Alec—have. In total, they have had fifteen man missions in different locations around the world. The goal of these missions is not to relax and have a chilled getaway but to take part in hardcore "manly" activities such as kayaking, hiking, biking, ice climbing, etc. They also have a set of rules called the "Man Mission Charter" that they have to abide by. As the four men travel to the different locations and take part in the activities, they each learn things about themselves and each other. Over the course of those fifteen years, life hits each of them with a variety of experiences, such as getting married, having kids, separation, divorce, infidelity, depression, etc. No matter what each of them goes through, they are always there for each other.

The story is narrated in the first person, from Eytan’s point of view. The book is divided into 3 parts (Beginning, Middle and End). Each part has five chapters. There are 15 chapters, so each chapter is about each man mission. At the end of each chapter, there is a quote, a Bible verse, and vital statistics that give a summary of each man mission.

I enjoyed this book throughout, and I loved reading about the adventures they had around the world. As a female, I learned a few things about men from reading this. I realized that they can be really emotional beings as well, but they just do not show it to you because society says that men are not supposed to cry. Men go through a lot of personal challenges and have a huge weight on their shoulders because they are the providers. Even the most simple decision, like choosing between two job offers, can affect the family greatly.

I have nothing negative to say about this book. It was well edited and has a good structure. There were a lot of funny and sad moments. There is also a lot of vulgar language, so if you are quite sensitive to that, you may not enjoy this book.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was an enjoyable read. This book is a story filled with adventure, choices, humor, obstacles, and self-reflection.

I would mostly recommend this book to men in their 20s going up, as they may relate to some of the experiences in this book. Women may also enjoy this book because it may help you understand how a man’s mind works.
