Review of McDowell
McDowell is a book about a man who had everything and then lost it. For him and his family, life became difficult. But, as time passed, he began to adjust to his current life situation, hoping to recover.
Dr. Hiram was a medical professional. As a hobby, he enjoyed mountain climbing. He decided to climb every high mountain in Nepal after losing a friend. Because of the death of his previous wife, Dr. Hiram had a large extended family. He had a son and two daughters, but due to his work, he wasn't always able to spend time with them. His wife despised him because he was constantly absent from home. Also, she suspected him of cheating on her. Dr. Hiram was a member of the International College of Surgeons. He wanted to be president to improve the organization, which he thought was underperforming. He devised a scheme with some of his friends to get them to vote for him. After the election, Dr. Hiram was declared the winner and named the organization's president. Dr. Hiram struggled as president of the International College because he failed to keep the pledges he made to his friends before being elected.
This book's plot was intriguing. William H. Coles wrote the book in such a way that even a layperson could understand it. While writing the book, he used simple words. The book was exceptionally well edited and had no grammatical errors. The plot of the book was full of suspense. My interest grew as I read each chapter. I was dying to know what happened to Dr. Hiram later on. I liked how the author used this book to demonstrate the consequences of broken promises. Dr. Hiram had no enemies before the election. He made enemies after failing to fulfill his promises to his friends. They turned against him, resulting in his lifelong struggle. I also liked how the author used the organization's election to promote the importance of fairness in elections. This book's characters were well developed.
There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. My favorite character was Dr. Hiram. Despite facing numerous challenges, he remained strong and optimistic about his future. What I liked best about Dr. Hiram was watching him transform from a haughty and arrogant man to a humble and patient man. He also cared for his children regardless of the circumstances. He made sure that they had everything they needed to feel at ease.
I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because it inspired me greatly. I learned from the plot of this book that I should never give up, even when things are difficult. I recommend this book to readers who are going through a difficult time. This book would undoubtedly provide them with solace.
