Review of Man Mission
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel revolves around a group of four men who go on wild adventures around the world and meet local people while simultaneously trying to manage their personal and work lives. The story takes place in present-day Australia and the different locations where the men venture. These men work to build themselves happy lives, relationships, and careers, but their lives are far from perfect. From stress from jobs to problems with wives, what these men go through is certainly not easy. To escape their struggles, the men go on yearly trips to various countries where they hike, camp, and meet other people.
This book was fascinating to read. I liked the style of the writing and the development of the characters. The book starts lighthearted and fun but becomes more pressing as the characters grow and mature. Various moments cracked me up. The characters had humorous moments but were always there for each other. Each man in the book had his highs and lows.
The characters are certainly not perfect, and some of their choices left me shaking my head. But imperfect characters are what make a story shine. The men learn from their mistakes and continue seeking out who they are. While I may consider some of the characters’ decisions questionable, I can’t say this book has any actual problems. The editing is flawless. The book does contain some profanity, but it doesn’t bother me.
I would give this book five out of five stars. The book is superb, the plot pulls me in, and the characters are easy to empathize with. I loved looking through the wild adventures the men go on and the changes in their jobs and relationships. I enjoyed watching the interactions between the men and locals in the book. The story was the complete opposite of boring, and I sometimes didn’t even want to put it down.
I recommend this book to young men, such as high school boys, men in college, and men out of college, who are trying to navigate their lives. However, this is not to say that other audiences wouldn’t enjoy this book. I think this book is targeted more toward men than women, but women would enjoy it, too, since it gives them a better idea of how their male counterparts think. Older audiences would likely get a chuckle from seeing the thoughts and struggles of younger men in this book. Christianity is the only religion mentioned in the book, so those seeking religious diversity in a book should probably try a different book. There is also a little sex mentioned, but the book doesn’t discuss it much. There isn’t a lot of violence in the book, but I must warn that a few animals are killed, so readers sensitive to the deaths of animals should be cautious about this book. Some other things mentioned are drugs, guns (I don’t recall anyone being shot), and a little alcohol, so younger readers and anyone who can’t handle said topics should stay away from this book.
