Review of Man Mission
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is other fiction book about four friends: Sam, Alec, Daniel, and the narrator, who take some time off from work at least once each year to go rediscover themselves through various adventurous activities in different parts of the world. Their adventures include hiking, biking, and kayaking in regions that are harsh and unpleasant without creature comforts, surrounded by bugs, spiders, and other creepy things that frighten. They say it's about them being men—camping, roughing it, and building fires. Among the places they explore are New Zealand, where they meet with drug dealers in the course of their travel, Fijian beaches, where they are frightened by a shark, South Africa, where they come face to face with a lion, a trek all the way to Machu Picchu, and ice climbing in Iceland. Along the way, the four friends get married and lead a satisfactory life. However, at some point, their marriage faces turbulence to the extent that the narrator gets a divorce and Daniel almost gets separated. Those are very difficult times for the four friends, but they survive the hard times by being pillars for each other. In the end, their problems and Man Mission activities make their friendship grow better and stronger.
I loved how the author interchangeably explains the main characters' Man Mission activities and their marital lives. Each adventurous activity is explicitly explained from the first time the narrator and his friend Sam come up with the idea of a man's mission and go first to New Zealand. Later on, they bring on board their other two friends, Daniel and Alec. Amidst the difficult family wrangles and resistance they encounter from their families, they continue with their yearly travel and adventurous activities for fifteen years. The author uses simple language to drive his message home and make the book enjoyable to read. I loved the use of different motivational quotes and biblical references at the end of every chapter. I loved how the author summarized each chapter. It enables the reader to reflect on all the activities in each chapter.
The book is well-structured. It was also professionally edited because I couldn't find any typos while reading. I can't find anything wrong with the book. Actually, the book was very interesting, and I enjoyed reading it.
I give the book 5 out of 5 stars because of the good flow of events from the start to the end. Also, I loved how the author simply but clearly summarized each chapter.
Likewise, I would recommend the book to young adults and adults who enjoy reading other fiction books with themes of friendship, positive adventure, love, and family. For sensitive readers, the book contains some sexual content.
