Review2: Man Mission by Eytan Uliel

Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a book that describes the adventures of a group of four friends over the course of fifteen years. They dubbed it the Man Mission. Over the years, the Man Mission for these four men became more than just an adventure, it evolved to become a journey of self-discovery.

Conceptualized in the daydreams of four youthful minds on their university premises, the Man Mission looked like a plan too impractical to ever take off. Yet, years later, when these four young men started to settle into their newfound lives, the allure of the Man Mission proved too irresistible to turn down.

The Man Mission is an annual, weeklong event that requires these four men to set out to diverse terrains across the world, journeying from one point to another while experiencing the warmth of their kinship; undergoing the physical exertion of either hiking, cycling, climbing or canoeing; and exploring both the land and culture. The Man Mission for these men was a daunting, exhilarating and inspirational journey, as during the duration of it, they were driven to break both physical and mental limits while discovering what it entails to be a 'man' along the way.

This novel is narrated from the first-person perspective. Of all the characters in this book, Eytan is the most well-developed, so following this narrative from his perspective was an interesting experience. The landscapes and sceneries are vividly depicted through the eyes of Eytan. The author did an excellent job of illustrating the sceneries in a manner that doesn't leave much to the imagination.

The bond between the protagonist, Eytan, and his friends exemplifies camaraderie and unity. At various critical phases in each of these people's lives, the unequivocal show of support by the rest of the group is heartwarming. This book's lovely portrayal of companionship is one that I very much liked.

The beautiful illustrations of the cultural heritage of the locales Eytan and his friends passed through during their Man Mission adventures are also noteworthy. The author did a good job showcasing the uniqueness of the food, geography and tradition of all the locales that Eytan and his friends visited in their adventures in as few words as possible.

There is nothing that I disliked about this book. The author utilizes a clear and descriptive writing style to convey his ideas. The use of humorous and inspirational words also made this book all the more interesting. The book is exceptionally well edited, as I found no spelling or grammatical errors in it. The good character development, the relatability of the characters' views of life with that of men, and the other reasons stated above make this book deserving of 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to lovers of the travel genre, as the vivid sceneries, diverse locations, and unique interactions with people from different climes are going to make this book special for them. If you are keen to explore what it entails to be 'the man', the Man Mission adventures undertaken by Eytan and his friends will make it easier for you to comprehend.
