To lose a loved one is a sad situation, but to lose a family is very devastating. Untimely death is one thing that plagues people's happiness today. This was the case with Joe in this book, The Unlikely Cowboy. This book was written by James E. Doucette. This story was about Joe, a police sergeant who lost both his wife and child to death.

Joe D'Angelo had been going through life like clockwork. He was admired at work because of his competency. But he was hiding his pain at losing his family. Something happened that made him resign from his job. He had been alerted to a robbery in progress. But things turned ugly when he shot and killed one of the robbers. So he decided to move to Texas. In Texas, he settled down as a gun repairer and opened a gun repair shop. Soon he made friends in the small community, and his business started going well. Since he had left his past life, did it mean that his last life had left him? Was Joe still capable of loving again?

This book was quite interesting. It was both a crime thriller and a romance book. I got to read about how small towns functioned. I wondered at Rowdy's abilities despite being blind. There was also Megan. She was a falcon trainer. It was she that Joe was attracted to. The small town in Texas where Joe settled was growing on him. The people changed his countenance as the days went by. However, his acquired abilities as an officer never left him. This was displayed when robbers tried to rob him in his shop. The way he easily subdued them showed that he hadn't forgotten his training.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. Its characters were well-described. I had a good mental picture of them. The description of the scenes was vivid. The storyline of the book was quite engaging. There was also a good dose of suspense. Though the plot line was born out of fiction, the author was inspired by real-life events and some people. It was good to see the effect Megan had on Joe. After his disturbing past, he needed to find happiness again. However, was he brave enough to take the bold step? The story was also about the leader of a mafia. Joe killed his brother. Now, he wanted retribution from Joe.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found no errors. It was exceptionally well-edited. The book was thrilling from the beginning to the end. Though there were some dull moments, the story quickly picked up before the reader would get bored. The vivid scenes and the well-described characters would help the imagination of readers. Some lessons could be learned from the book. I recommend this book to those who enjoy reading crime-thriller romance books.

There's so much happening in the life of the protagonist. I like Megan and Jo's aspect of the book. Quite intriguing. I like your review, simple yet beautiful.
