Review of Man Mission
Man Mission is a captivating adventure fiction tale by Eytan Uliel that follows the lives of four friends as they embark on annual journeys, known as man missions, involving different outdoor activities in exotic locations. These missions serve as a getaway for the friends from their busy work schedules and families, allowing them to indulge in nature and seek adventure. The idea of these missions stemmed from the narrator's desire to explore the world's beauty with his friend, Sam, during their school days. However, it took them years to turn their dream into a reality.
The story is narrated by the protagonist and offers a glimpse into the lives of the characters. We follow the journey of the friends from their first mission hiking through Harper's Pass Trail in New Zealand to visiting other countries such as Japan, Peru, and Spain, and participating in activities like kayaking, cycling, and hiking. Eytan's descriptions of the different locations and the events that take place during the missions are vivid and immersive, giving the reader a sense of being right there alongside the friends as they explore new cultures and terrain.
The character development in the book is one of its greatest strengths. As the story unfolds, we witness the bond of friendship between the four friends and the personal growth and challenges they each experience during the missions. The author skillfully weaves past events into the narrative to provide a more profound understanding of the characters, making them more relatable to the reader. The characters are realistic, and readers will find themselves identifying with the characters' personal struggles as they try to balance work, family, and their passion for adventure.
While the book is primarily about the adventures of the friends, it also provides insights into the cultures and traditions of the countries they visit. It's interesting to learn about the different customs and ways of life of the people in each country, making the book not only an adventure story but also an educational one.
The only minor criticism of the book is that towards the end, the focus shifted from the thrill of adventure to the personal lives of the characters. While this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book, it would have been nice to see more of the breathtaking landscapes and adrenaline-fueled activities that make the Man Missions so exciting. However, this shift in focus allowed for a deeper exploration of the characters and their relationships, making them more relatable and their journeys more meaningful.
In conclusion, Man Mission is a highly entertaining book that offers a glimpse into the world of adventure and outdoor activities which I would give a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It's a story about friendship, personal growth, and taking chances, all set against the backdrop of exotic locations. Eytan Uliel's vivid descriptions of the places and events in the book make it a highly engaging read, and the character development makes the characters relatable to the reader. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in adventure, outdoor activities, and travel.
