Society has undoubtedly changed. There are now two systems to live by; the Earth-System and the Crystal-System. The former is based on principles the readers already know; profit maximization, various economic classes, and how people can help themselves. The latter is based on new principles where, instead of doing everything for as much money as possible, time is used as a form of currency and exchange.

The concept of this book is something I haven’t ever really seen until now. I believe IslanD-25 by Alan Doer is an exceptionally intriguing and well-written book that many people will enjoy.

When I initially read the synopsis of this book, I wasn’t completely certain whether I would enjoy it or not. I believed it would be the latter when I first began reading. Even though the author stated in the synopsis that this book is a continuation of another book, I believed I would be able to easily slip into the world Doer had created. I was vaguely disappointed at first, as I thought I wouldn’t be able to immerse myself in the story as I didn’t grasp it well enough. However, once I pushed myself to carry on reading, I was able to recognize the author’s fantastic ability for world-building.

I loved the way I was able to lose myself in the world Doer created for his audience. Once I was able to understand the differences between the Earth-System and the Crystal-System, I was sucked into the story. I tremendously enjoyed reading about Alex’s journey and the numerous things he encountered. I was also a big fan of how the chapters all took place in different years, showing how the systems and people progressed. I’ve never really seen anything like that before and I actually enjoyed it a lot.

I was a big fan of this book as a whole. The only negative point I could make is it took me a while to fall into the fictional world the author created, but I don’t think it would be fair as I genuinely enjoyed the detail put into creating this story. The book was exceptionally edited, as I found no errors whatsoever, and I feel as though there was nothing I disliked enough to deduct points from my score. So, as a result of the reasons mentioned above, I happily rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to readers who are typically big fans of fantasy and sci-fi. While it is slightly confusing at first, there is some great world-building in the novel that I think these people would really enjoy. I believe this book would be more appropriate for older readers, as while there is only slight profanity, there are some sexual themes throughout.
