Man Mission is a coming-of-age story that follows the lives of four friends - Eytan, David, Jonathan, and Danny. These men had all met in graduate school and bonded over their love for adventure. Each year, they embark on a new and exciting trip to some exotic destination where they engage in physical activities such as hiking, kayaking, and scuba diving. The book takes the reader on a journey spanning fifteen years, during which the four men navigate their personal and professional lives while always looking forward to their annual adventures.

The book is not just a travel diary but also delves into the emotional struggles that come with adult responsibilities. The men grapple with issues such as marriage, fatherhood, and career choices. Each trip serves as a temporary escape from their real-world responsibilities, and they come back with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their lives. The book captures the contrast between their mundane lives at home and the thrilling adventures they experience abroad.

One of the best things about the book is how it blends travel writing with a thoughtful exploration of adult responsibilities and introspection. The book is written in a pensive style, with scenes shifting between the adventurous trips and the events unfolding in the men's hometowns. The contrast between the two different lifestyles and how each character processes the experiences they have is fascinating to read. The book also provides male perspectives on growing up, starting families, and navigating complex emotions. Uliel's writing does an excellent job of capturing the vulnerability and complexity of these men's experiences.

It's difficult to find anything negative to say about "Man Mission." The book is well-written, well-edited, and thoroughly enjoyable to read. The author deftly handles emotional introspection while still giving each character a unique personality. The travel diary aspect of the book is particularly enthralling, with vivid descriptions of beautiful places such as New Zealand, Fiji, and Thailand. The book serves as both an inspiration for future travels and a reminder to appreciate the simple moments of everyday life.

This book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It's a compelling and poignant read that will appeal to a wide range of readers. The characters are relatable, the travel descriptions are vivid, and the emotional introspection is authentic. The book is a testament to the power of travel to bring people together and provide perspective on life's challenges.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an engrossing and thought-provoking read. If you enjoy travel writing or coming-of-age stories, this book will not disappoint. Even readers who don't typically gravitate toward these genres will find something to appreciate in the relatable characters and universal themes. This is a beautifully written book that is well worth your time.

Reading about the many places these four men visited was intriguing. I laughed with them, wowed with them, worried with them, and learned a lot from their experience. Indeed, this book says a lot about friendship. Interesting review.
